In addition to presenting the exciting opportunity for the Rays' new stadium, We’d like to share with you a broader vision We’ve been passionately working toward for the past 2 decades– bringing the Olympics to Tampa.
Since CEO, Asif Hakeem was first interviewed by the Rays through the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, we’ve been actively pitching the idea of hosting the Olympic Games here in Tampa. Over the years, we've come to realize that the most opportune sites for such an event lie in close proximity to the land where we could potentially place the Rays' new stadium. Specifically, the Florida State Fairgrounds and the area surrounding Raymond James Stadium, Steinbrenner Field, and Al Lopez Park present a unique convergence of space and access that would be perfect for Olympic events.
In this vision, we could transform Al Lopez Park into Tampa Olympic Park, a central hub for the Games, complementing the newly built stadium for the Rays and creating a world-class sports and entertainment destination. The proximity to transportation, such as Tampa International Airport, and the existing infrastructure with stadiums already in place would provide a seamless and efficient experience for both the athletes and the visitors.
The opportunity to host the Olympics in Tampa could elevate the city to a global stage, bringing in significant economic benefits, tourism, and lasting development. We believe the timing is right to make this vision a reality, with the development of the Rays’ new stadium serving as a key piece of this larger puzzle.
